What's in the air and how does it make you feel?
Dirty diesel, aerial pesticide, car exhaust and...
Four teenagers, laughing, flirting, snapping cell phone photos on the bus. I sat across from the happy travelers and felt happy, too. Love was in the air. In contrast to the other day when I sat across from a grumpy woman speaking loudly on her cell phone. Whew!
Cell phones. Invading my space.
For good. Not so good.
It got me thinking about unseen "vibrations". From people, and cell phones and cell towers. You see, while I pondered the spiritual component of clean air, I looked up and my vision landed on a cell tower, rising above the freeway.
I'm not an expert on electromagnetic energy (EMF) -- those electrical waves fluctuating all about us, especially powerful near cell towers, TV and radio towers, and many say smart meters, too -- but I am curious.
And sensitive to outside energy.
So I started my education with cell towers and their impact on people living close by. In cities, cell towers are hard, if not impossible, to avoid. Yet there is evidence there is a growing number of people fleeing cell towers especially living within close range. Others are oblivious to cell tower presence whether by distraction or camouflage, as, increasingly, cell towers are masked to look like trees or put inside high chapels, and...
Here's a sampling of my research, much of which I have not yet read but culled what I think is worth looking into -- if you are interested in unseen EMF fields in our air that may impact your electrical-at-base bodies, please check out:
Start with Dr. Magda Hava's informative video about dangers of radiation in your home and near cell towers, and why Switzerland is prioritizing less wireless use especially at their schools.
The United States Navy commissioned the University of Washington (around 1984) to study microwave radiation and found a link between pulsed radiation and increased cancer rates. Read about it here.
AntennaSearch.com - type in your zip code to learn how many cell towers are near you. Yikes! I'm near 269 cell phone towers within 4 miles, and 3 applications from cell phone companies for new towers. I have a great signal.
Electrical Pollution - newsletter online. I admire the thoroughness of studies at this online EMF hub.
Cross Currents, a book by Robert O. Becker, M.D. who has impeccable credentials -- talks about healing by electromagnetic medicine, which includes acupuncture (I'm a big fan), and risks of electromagnetic pollution.
Environmental Working Group on Cell Phones
September 2011 Brazil study on deaths near cellular telephone base stations. The government study conducted in the third largest Brazilian city found an increase in cancer rates of those living within 600 meters (656 yards) of a cell tower.
Plan Wireless - a web site helping communities avoid new cell towers. Currently on their home page, the story of home-owners in Burbank, California fighting T-Mobile that wanted to put a cell tower in local church.
Full Signal - a documentary out of Israel about a community that successfully united against cell phone towers and their use in village after a spike in cancer clusters. I rented this movie online. The producer interviews many people in Israel and New York with interesting things to share.
Are these studies alarmist? Overblown? I don't know. I have my beliefs, though. Different folks weigh in on cellular technology, which is apparently here to stay.
Electrical sensitivity is real, and augmented for many people when living near a cell tower. If you are electro-sensitive, check out helpful links here.
The Electrosensitive Society
Check out your cell phone's radiation levels here.
Microwave technology, in its infancy, including studies on its health impacts, means I encourage you to stay informed. It's your body and brain.
Please note, I am not open to responding to comments but feel free to express yourself.
Cellular technology is important to understand as it impacts us, whether or not we speak on a cell phone. As for me - my next move will not be near a cell tower, I will stop holding my cell phone as often as I have, I will reconsider using my Apple TV device, and while I rarely use a microwave oven, I will not zap convenience again.
Photo from one of my favorite Los Angeles hikes where T-Mobile cell phone coverage (my carrier) is excellent throughout. Hmmm.
Until next time, breathe easy and make life an adventure!
