It is heart-wrenching to watch fires eat away at beautiful Mendocino, Sonoma and Napa Counties -- where tourism and wineries normally flourish. I read that strong winds combined with drought conditions, and downed power lines may be the mix that made it happen.
It's recommended when "raining" ash to stay inside, hopefully, with an air purifier. I'm sure you know that. These are areas not usually known for poor air quality, rather quite good, yet...
Climate change peaked to a degree that chasing clean air may increasingly be a mute point. Drought and hot conditions guarantee mega-fires shall continue. So fortunate are we who've explored the mighty states of California, Oregon, Washington, Montana, Colorado; the Canadian provinces just next door. I recall breathing crisp, clean air, winding along the Icefield Parkway between Jasper and Banff - the most beautiful road in the world. Flanked on each side were torquise lakes and ice-capped glaciers that each year receded, revealing more brown, less white, as a result of more heat, less cold.
I feel like getting on Amtrak and winding through the magnificent West to experience what's still here for however long.
Those were the days, my friends. I thought they'd never end...
