Stop the heat! I'm not talking baking under the California sun where trees beg for water under barren skies but rather that heat on your lap after hours typing on a laptop! Stop wondering if typing on a laptop MAY harm your health in the way of the cigarette - once harmless, later double crossed danger! Today we're going to find out if the HARApad Root 2.0 laptop radiation and heat shield works at keeping your radiation exposure minimized.
First a little background: My interest in unseen air pollution brought me to study radiation like a layman, I mean, lay-woman. There are multiple types of radiation in our world beyond the Fukishima dose that circled the globe. They include common daily exposures from the sun and beyond: electromagnetic, microwave, and radiofrequency (RF) fields. One way to mitigate exposure to wireless, microwave, and especially electromagnetic exposure at home and on-the-go for devices like my MacBook Pro is considering a laptop shield like HARApad Root 2.0.
I spoke to HARApad co-owner, Mark Kramer, who told me,
"In addition to shielding three types of radiation, the HARApad also serves as an attractive flat wood "pad" for a laptop's stability. The main benefit though is that the HARApad almost completely wipes out the electromagnetic field and it helps minimize wifi but won't block wifi entirely."
Ok, let's test the HARApad's electromagnetic field protection!
Does the HARApad work at shielding radiation?
I used this E.L.F. Zone electromagnetic field detector with green safe, yellow caution, and red danger! modes.
You be the judge.

The radiation shield (lead and tungsten-free) attracts low frequency (ELF) radiation emitted by laptop computers, creating a path of least resistance for the radiation to travel. This radiation flows in a loop from your laptop through the HARApad and back into the laptop instead of your body.
According to different studies including information published on WebMD, laptop radiation exposure may lead to lower sperm counts in men, and potential cancers in both sexes. For more health impacts information, click here.
Harapad comes in a variety of colors and sizes, and soon will be available for notebooks like the iPad.
