Salomon Comet 3D GTX Hiking Boot Review

I needed a multi-season  lightweight hiking boot with super-ankle-support for steep inclines and uneven terrain, great traction for Southern California's drought-driven dry gravel yet able to handle rainy-Pacific-Northwest-muddy trails while keeping my feet dry. Is that asking too much?

Apparently, not!

I found the Salomon Comet 3D GTX Hiking Boot. And I'm glad I did. Let me tell you about these boots lined with keep-me-dry-in-the-rain-Gore-Tex yet breathable too! And for women they come in two colors, including feminine pinkish purple detailing.

Running true to size, this pair took me no time to break in. They were comfortable, feeling light and sturdy on my first hike at Will Rogers State Park, above a beautiful Los Angeles. It was a warm, humid day and despite conditions, my feet did not heat up due to the breathable material. I felt "safe" with the ankle support given areas on the trail can get gravely, rocky.

First a little background: My interest in unseen air pollution brought me to study radiation like a layman, I mean, lay-woman. There are multiple types of radiation in our world beyond the Fukishima dose that circled the globe. I spoke to HARApad co-owner, Mark Kramer, who told me,

"In addition to shielding three types of radiation, the HARApad also serves as an attractive flat wood "pad" for a laptop's stability. The main benefit though is that the HARApad almost completely wipes out the electromagnetic field and it helps minimize wifi but won't block wifi entirely."

The radiation shield (lead and tungsten-free) attracts low frequency (ELF) radiation emitted by laptop computers, creating a path of least resistance for the radiation to travel. This radiation flows in a loop from your laptop through the HARApad and back into the laptop instead of your body.

IN the not too distant past, I was developing a Chasing Clean Air TV show with a local PBS station to be distributed to sister stations. Will the Best Water Bottle Step Forward?

Do YOU have a favorite water bottle?

IT keeps drinks cooler longer, is bpa-free, and according to HydraPak, the new Wooly sports bottle is their most technically advanced insulated product yet. Keeps refreshments hot or cold. Perfect for summer camping when daytime often means bring on the cold beverage, and a night time campfire calls for hot chocolate, coffee, or tea! 

With its spill proof bite valve, Camelbak Eddy looks good in its deep gray top. But does it perform? I spill. I spill with this bottle. I spill often. A recent purchase, I can't recommend though many people love this bottle. Perhaps you can teach me how this technology works!

Kleen Kanteen just may be my winner for durability and good clean taste. I drop this bottle on planes, trains, and buses - call me a klutz, but it still provides great tasting water with no gimmicks.

I also really like Nalgene BPA-free bottles with a closure to protect the area you sip. Nalgene bottles fit well, as does Kleen Kanteen and Wooly, in my backpack sleeves.

The big glass bottle in blue trim is made of glass, no leeching from plastics or metals, bought at Whole Foods. I like it. Clean, good tasting water. I bring this bottle dancing because it packs well in my dance shoe bag, not as easily in my hiking backpack - also when backpacking I prefer lighter bottles like Nalgene, and soon I'll try out a new hydration pack that fits my new Osprey.
