No Water in the Waterfall! California's Drought

My first day with the boots, I hiked Temescal Canyon in Los Angeles.

NO break-in period!

Great tread on the Southern California drought impacted dry and rocky trail made me feel safe! No slipping and sliding.

Lightweight, breathable, and well-designed, my feet appreciated the great ease -- heel, ball, toe -- with no heavy lifting of my feet as can occur with heavier boots.

Running true to size, I slipped the teal Ahnu Sugarpine Boot over my liner and hiking socks, which held my feet in place well.

At first, I adjusted the lace tightness on one boot to account for fact that my left foot (my feet are not equal) felt the shoe construction was "hitting" my ankle. Just a few adjustments, including loosening the shoelace in one spot, and I was good to go, no problems. Mucho comfort, instead.

When you have a great hiking boot, you can enjoy the trail. You no longer think about your shoes. No blisters. No slipping. No discomfort.

And that's the point.

I enjoyed the trail, making friends along the way!

And at the end of the day my feet were as happy as in the beginning.

I highly recommend the lightweight and waterproof Ahnu Sugarpine Hiking Boot.

I truly believe their technology is A++! And a life-saver when overwhelmed packing for an action-packed trip, wondering what versatile shoe to bring.

The Tree

There is a healthy oak tree growing between office buildings.

Protected.

Appreciating the rarity that someone would give up building additional offices to rent and make more money in order to save a tree, (This is a commercial zone in Los Angeles) I stopped by and asked who is the man or woman with such high values?

Tom Jones.

Save Trees. Save Habitats. Clean the Air.

Tom Jones was the CEO of Northrop Grumman and owned a local Bel Air winery called Moraga Vineyards. I happened to be taking bird photos in what turned out to be his neighborhood the day of his funeral. He was age 93.

Whoever said living near the freeway increases chances for earlier death hasn't met some of the folks living for decades in Bel Air near the busiest stretch of 405 freeway. Though I'm not saying living near a freeway is good.

A who's who from Nancy Reagan to movie stars streamed in and out of Jones' estate that I knew little about. But I'd soon learn in addition to a lot of friends, Mr. Jones valued preservation of land, trees, and beauty -- his legacy.

What a wonderful world, if more people especially with money to graze trees to replace with cement, followed the lead of Tom Jones.

Before he recently passed, media mogul, Rupert Murdock bought the Tom Jones winery and office complex, consisting of a big oak tree in the courtyard for all employees to enjoy, not to mention support the critters and birds and oxygen it lends. But on the condition that Murdock continue Tom Jones's preservation of land, trees, and grapes.

Great job, Tom Jones. Great job!
