The New Yorker, Taking It To The Streets: Keystone Pipeline Means Game Over for the Planet According to Respected Scientist, James Hansen

McKibben, who is an author and an environmental activist (and a former New Yorker staff writer), had been alarmed by a conversation he had had about the proposed pipeline with James Hansen, the head of NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies, and one of the country’s foremost climate scientists.

If the Keystone XL oil pipeline was built, it would hasten the extraction of exceptionally dirty crude oil, using huge amounts of water and heat, from the tar sands of Alberta, Canada, which would then be piped across the United States, where it would be refined and burned as fuel, releasing a vast new volume of greenhouse gas into the atmosphere.

“What would the effect be on the climate?” McKibben asked.

Hansen replied, “Essentially, it’s game over for the planet.”

Like most Americans, I love my freedom.

Bangladesh Hosts 2011 Climate Change Conference for Countries Most Vulnerable to Flooding

The 2011 Climate Vulnerable Conference will take place in Bangladesh on November 13th and 14th, 2011.

The goal is to share ideas and elevate climate change awareness amongst countries most vulnerable. As well, as engage countries creating the most man-made climate change. (China and United States).

Low Carbon Leadership Is Needed

Creating leadership on low-carbon development is another pressing goal to be emphasized.

On this note, I saw President Clinton on Jon Stewart's Daily Show last night. Clinton referenced Germany's success with solar energy. He said that with little sun, especially compared to America's Southwest, Germans' were able to harness the sun and create an economic and "climate change" success!

Why can't we?
