Would you pay $5000 for this face?
I snapped the bulldog on my Boston Harbor Cruise, a quick ferry from Provincetown to Boston for $79 round-trip, a great deal for Cape Cod convenience and lowering your carbon emissions, which I was wont to do when this lady walked up to me and said,
"Guess what?" The woman broke into a wide smile and raised her forehead, as if to share a lightbulb moment. "My neice gets $5000 for a dog's photo."
"People don't pay big bucks for their kids photos," she volunteered.
I wanted to know more.
"No?"
She shook her head.
"People don't pay big bucks for their family photos, either."
"No?"
She shook her head and smiled.
"People pay big bucks for their dogs," she smacked her lips with satisfaction.
The secret to her neice's family success was out as we arrived to the Boston Harbor.
Our Boston Harbor Cruise was a smooth ride. With wireless service, too.
Emails. Web surfing. You get the drift.
And after said woman revealed her neice's secret to the big stash, I mean, cash, said woman added more, slowly cocking her head and barely above a whisper, adding,
"People pay dearly for horse photographs, too!"
I'd never thought about horses. They have plenty of horses in California.
Ranches. Polo fields.
Ralph Lauren.
"Horsies?" I said.
She winked.
"Of coursie."
With that I put my camera in its bag, headed for the exit, and started to disembark at Long Harbor. I noted another woman in a pink t-shirt that caught my eye.
Being that my memory occasionally goes on the blink, I think the t-shirt said,
Creativity and Courage Make All Things Possible.
