California Nature Tours. That's the name of the organization led by naturalist David Schmidt, who took me on a day hike in west Marin's Point Reyes National Seashore yesterday.
Clean air. Fragrant air. In large part thanks to the first day of Fall's rain, which didn't detract from exploring our nation's only federally protected beach.
According to the Point Reyes National Seashore web site,
From its thunderous ocean breakers crashing against rocky headlands and expansive sand beaches through its open grasslands to its brushy hillsides and forested ridges, visitors can discover over 1000 species of plants and animals. Home to several cultures over thousands of years, Point Reyes preserves a tapestry of stories and interactions of people. Point Reyes awaits your exploration.
We saw sea lions and blue herons enjoying the shore, and my favorite Douglas fir and Redwood trees...
If you come to California's clean air Marin County, which I highly recommend, take a day trip with naturalist David Schmidt who will enrich your experience with tales of the area's history, terrain, flora, animals, and secret backroads that only locals know.
