How To Keep Bugs Away

The cleanest air is typically found in remote wild areas where bugs are frequently found, hence my continued interest in products that keep bugs away.

After I wrote about my special keep-bugs-away Exofficio clothing find, I learned about other keep-bugs-away products like this  Insect Shield Buff.

It can be worn in many exotic ways.

Comes in different colors, too.

And most importantly the repellent is so tightly bonded to the fabric that I'm told it can not come off onto the skin or into the environment. I'm looking forward to trying it.

I haven't camped since last summer, and when I do, I'd like to try ThermaCELL's bug-free lantern found at Home Depot.

According to government tests, ThermaCELL Mosquito Repellent lanterns are up to 98% effective in fighting mosquitoes, black flies, and no-see-ums. (What's a no-see-um?) It doesn't have an open flame and is EPA approved.

Light is Beautiful

Light is beautiful.

I contemplate light versus heavy as one who owns a Yamaha U3 piano, marble furniture and a solid oak  Ethan Allen Country French bedroom set.

I am a weight-lifter.

No problem.

I'll just move that filing cabinet an inch!

What was that tweak? In my body.

Today, I am no longer a weight-lifter but a philosopher who types standing because it hurts to sit and then stand. OUCH!!

Spider Photo

Pretty cool photo. Just going through Kauai photos and found this I took when Debbie was on one side of spider's web, and I on the other. I don't like spiders, but I love this photo.

Recycle

Dropped off paper, plastics, bottles... in Santa Monica's recycling facility. Just a friendly reminder to sort and dump in the right recycling receptacles near you.

Tranformation and the blog

Every now and again I question why I write. Why not just live. And into such a moment, plopped Ruthy -- a friend and occasional reader of Chasing Clean Air.

We met for sushi last night where in-between bites of eel (ew!) she excitedly told me about how she loved ziplining. The rush! The adrenaline! The overcoming fear! Oh! How she trembled with fear before stepping off "good land" as she put and into the unknown. Would she get stuck? Would she fall? Would she go through with it?

Travel Gear: Size Matters

22-inches. The new chic! Caught up with how things appear, like my beat-up green suitcase from plane, train, car, TSA, and border patrolmen and women abuse, I browsed suitcases at LAX luggage thinking I may invest in a shiny new... Could I live out of a 22-inch carry-on? Appearances. Size matters. Size costs. Bigger is no longer better.
