There are pockets of clean air in the San Francisco Bay Area, and I believe Pacifica, known for big waves and surfers, is one of them. My close friend from high school, Tina, moved to Pacifica with her husband and three boys. I took Highway 1 to visit. We hadn't seen each other in 20 + years, and, naturally, hadn't changed. The look, the laugher, the friendship. Same.
Tina's pretty mom, Annette, of the kind heart, knack for knitting, and distinct Southern drawl, sadly passed from lung cancer. A few years ago after her diagnosis but before her passing, we'd talk on the phone and she gave me courage and the extra kick I needed to pack my things and chase clean air, rather than accept poor air quality and the status quo. Thank you, Annette...
