Have you ever had a moment when you said,
"Enough is enough, I'm out of here!"
Perhaps you were stuck in traffic, observing a blackish brown-skyline like below.
My moment arrived in the summer of 2006 when the sky looked like this from my window on Southwest Airlines hovering over LAX.
Soot built on my window sill despite weekly cleaning.
And traffic didn't move, leaving plenty of time to think about chasing clean air, beauty and a sustainable life.
Quality of life had to be better elsewhere.
Today, Los Angeles is still my base but I'm now a clean air advocate speaking out and testifying at hearings such an EPA hearing for stricter ozone standards, which you can read here and...
much of my time is spent researching clean air technologies and communities, and traveling to clean air destinations where I write and post photos on Chasing Clean Air.
I do thorough research of the sort you won't normally find in your local newspaper travel section or even health-oriented associations.
I've learned to trust my own research over perhaps well-meaning folks in order to get the truth about so-called and real clean air locations.
Most are relatively clean, depending on weather patterns, geography, and whether or not there was a recent toxic spill.
Or 17 million people and 11 million cars nearby like in L.A. and our surrounding local counties, where cancer, cardiovascular disease, and asthma rates are higher than most the rest of the country.
I use my journalism skills (Forbes/CNN) to scoop the truth of places on my own. And I report what I learn and experience here.
Only here.
On the right panel, I have categories of clean air locations I have visited and researched, including environmental pollutants' impact on communities.
Check out Environmental Pollution and Your Health category.
My next trip will occur later in November when I return to Vancouver Island (a place I love) followed by a visit to the nearby San Juan Islands in Washington State.
If you visit often, you'll know I like to talk about what's going on in my life and head, and I spout off on politics/leadership too, especially as it relates to clean air. Like how I voted absentee last week. Click here.
I enjoy hearing what's going on in your life, heart, and head, too.
I look forward to hearing your comments, and learning about your favorite clean air getaways.
