Dr. James Hansen is the father of climatology in U.S., and the man who warned the world about global warming over twenty years ago. He says our situation is becoming dire because we have to start cleaning the air within a few years, which means we can't use fossil fuels and coal plants until we have technology to capture carbon. We don't have it. Current leadership is discussing drilling for more oil, and building more coal plants. Not to mention increased coal plants and auto use is going on in China and India, currently experiencing unprecedented growth. We need to help get them into electric cars, utilizing renewable energy, too.
Dr. Hansen's solutions to global warming in order:
1) Place moratorium on coal plants and phase out coal until we find way to sequester carbon from air.
2) Use fossil fuels more efficiently.
3) Create energy without greenhouse gases.
A theme running throughout his words, and others: We need effective leadership. Currently, we don't have it. In fact, Bush and his staffers have sequestered important climate change scientific information.
