Smog.
On a positive note, it contributes to brilliant orange red sunsets.
Yet...
I didn't pursue higher education working for a report card dominated by an A to grow up and move to an area dominated by F--year after year.
F for ozone pollution.
F for particulate matter pollution.
According to the American Lung Association's State of the Air 2007 report, Los Angeles County air is rated F for failing to care for the lungs of its residents.
The photo was taken in July 2006. I'm hiking above black smog, or in other words, air thick with fine particulate matter, mostly from diesel truck and car sources, which is cooked by the sun for an ozone toxic potion. I didn't feel well hiking in this, and it was about then that I started my search for clean air.
While there's hope for improvement, I'm taking my hope on the road to head for a new area (for me) that received a positive report card from the American Lung Association--straight As.
A for ozone and A for particulate matter.
I'm looking forward to see how clean skies feels there. Every locale feels differently, even when clean.
I'm waiting for thick fog to lift, and will hit the road. Really excited.
Writing under clean skies next.
