Any self-respecting woman knows it's preferable to be covered in kisses than mosquito bites.
I am no exception.
Therefore, my Hawaiian adventure shall include... How does a woman protect herself while hiking in a rain forests' moist canopy of trees, branches, and ground dripping with bugs?
Dipping in a lagoon?
At sunset.
When bugs come out to play, bite, and suck blood.
Hiking in the Caribbean after a hurricane--not a good idea--I was drenched from matted hair to soggy toes with hundreds of mosquito bites. And what about the two times I slept while spi... crawling? Two spi... bites--a brown recl... (can't even say these words). OUCH!
I need strong protection. That's all I have to say.
Yet I fear poison, penetrating my skin.
DEET? Don't do it!
Or do.
I have gathered the usual shields against vermin, and will take inventory.
I own the following:
MBi Biting Insect Antigens - bought at Santa Monica natural pharmacy, I never used it, and I can't remember if I'm even supposed to put it under my tongue before or after a bite.
Don't Bite Me! - This vitamin B patch smells bad but it's natural. The smell shooed me away last year when I brought it to Canada. I really should give the patch a chance.
Vitamin B1 - I heard taking Vit. B will make my blood smell less appealing to mosquitoes. The anti-perfume.
Buzz Away! - This is a spray with warnings not to let kids near it.
Buzz Away! - This is a cream with citronella, it has SPF 15, and while I smell like an orange, it's the cream most likely to accompany me to Hawaii.
OFF - Was recommended to spray on clothes. It has so many warning signs on its bottle, I'm not bringing it.
Ultrathon Insect Repellent with DEET - This is the heavy duty bug killing "poison" of them all. I bought it two years ago, and still haven't put it on my skin. What with all its warnings but it has come highly recommended.
Poison Ivy Relief also relieves itch of insect bites.
I don't own the following ExOfficio Insect Repellent Clothing--brought to my attention at the Adventure 16 store--but I wonder could insecticide clothing for the adventurous spirit be part of my bug protection routine?
Here's CDC's recommendations to protect against ticks and mosquitoes.
