I need levity after last post. Something upbeat. In a recession, there are many free things to enjoy in Los Angeles.
Here are three.
(Photos shot with my iPhone)
1. Disney Hall. How about checking out Disney Hall. Mom was in town, and we had a tour of Disney Hall highlighting its unusual architecture by Frank Gehry designed to be one of the most acoustically sophisticated concert halls in the world. They offer free events for kids once a month.
Did you know there are peaceful gardens with city views from I think the 5th floor?
That's where I spied cleaners watering Disney Hall's walls, and watering, and watering, and watering. And in our drought, I couldn't help but wonder is that the best way to clean this architectural masterpiece?
2. LADWP. Ironically, Disney Hall is across the street from LADWP, another place that offers a free personal tour in the lobby covering LA's history of water and energy.
Perhaps making up for Disney's Hall water usage, LADWP greets visitors with trendy & appreciated in drought states--cactus gardens.
Here's mom in front of LADWP.
If you ask me, LADWP needs more information in their lobby about emerging clean energy. Maybe I could help.
3. MOCA. If you go downtown on a Thursday between 5-8 MOCA (modern art museum) offers free admission.
These three venues are within a few blocks of each other. So just park (okay that will cost $6-$12 dollars depending when you arrive) and watch for traffic when you cross the street. :-)
