Update: 12/5 In this post I expressed dismay about Knox verdict and questioned travel to Italy unless case is retried with all evidence. On further reflection to question boycotting a country for what happened with a select trial may go too far. The country isn't guilty of wrongdoing. I know many wonderful Italians. But the truth is I immediately felt concern about travel to Italy when I heard the verdict.
What I wrote yesterday: I have family in Italy, therefore it's not "normal" for me to suggest boycotting Italy. But it's horrific this young Amanda Knox was found guilty of murder despite not all evidence was seen and heard, according to several respected journalists.
I had my purse stolen in a train while traveling through Milan, Italy many years ago. The police practically treated me like a criminal. It was my first experience with what I took as prejudice toward Americans. That's what I think about this. I will think about boycotting Italy until this case is retried in an appellate court with all evidence. Personally, I do not think she's guilty of the crime she's accused of but rather she's the victim of Italian so-called justice. How frightening to go to Italy and potentially be framed for a crime you're not a part of.
