A study found that air pollution negatively impacts the health of people and residents residing near Santa Monica Airport, especially on the east side. This study was announced around the time a reader here asked me where to move and if certain areas, which happened to be near farms, were safe.
It got me thinking how many of us absorbed on the internet, cyber-traveling everywhere but here and talking to people anywhere but in front of us, miss the obvious.
Look around you. Within a few blocks. Within a few miles. Several miles.
Live near a polluting source like airports, major roadways, industrial plants, pesticide-laden farms and we put ourselves at some degree of risk from contaminants.
Regarding trading up city congestion for living in the open space near idyllic open-space farms, I'd say check out farms pesticide use and how it impacts neighbors before deciding whether you've found fresh, clean air.
