Despite my trepidation about climbing Mt. Shasta (in my automobile :-) ) upon leaving Oregon, I felt warm when I saw Welcome To California!
I am a Californian. Traveling beyond my borders, at times I've felt unwelcome.
Here I belong and am accepted.
I stopped at this point to compose myself, take a deep breath and prepare for the hour plus drive through Mt. Shasta region, which had freaked me out on the drive up. High elevation, narrow roads at points. Big trucks swaying in the wind.
I met an Indian postal worker who's dad was touring with him, visiting from India. He reassured me the drive wasn't so bad except maybe one part going over Lake Shasta. And he snapped my picture.
The drive wasn't bad, after all.
I'm not sure if I was better prepared or if going south is easier than north.
Now I'm staying in a small town just outside of Shasta called Anderson. More soon....
