$6 billion dollars of stimulus money to go to Hanford Nuclear Storage in Southeast Washington State; site of leaking nuclear waste containers. Bush didn't want to allocate money to fix the leaking containers. Obama will.
The bigger issue: If you are for nuclear energy (I am not) and participate in the what if we build more discussions, consider there is nowhere safe to put spent nuclear fuel. No one wants it. Hanford is our country's largest nuclear storage facility and it doesn't want more waste. Hanford can't handle what it has.
Its toxic waste negatively impacts people, soil, rivers, and dust blowing in the air maybe towards you.
I get irked when I think of adults suggesting nuclear is clean, while turning a blind eye to the energy, water, money and time it takes to build a reactor with no consideration of the reported and UNREPORTED nuclear meltdowns. No consideration of danger in transportation. No consideration of terrorists. So what if France has 'em. I'm tired of that argument. French leadership also went along with the Holocaust.
I do listen to the father of climate change, James Hansen, who has been quoted as saying he'd back a 4th Generation Nuclear Power Plant, which is a super fast reactor that burns all nuclear material so there's minimal waste.
I do wonder what minimal means, and how intelligent folks can safely transport the radioactive material. And terrorists?
Hansen also said,
"I hope renewable energy (solar/wind) can do the job."
Why don't we talk about the Danish if we want role models that did the job: A country built on sustainable wind power. To read more about Denmark and Samsoa island--people committed to doing what's right for its people and land when considering energy use--click here.

If you still think nuclear should be an option, I encourage you study everything that's gone on at the Hanford Nuclear Storage Facility.
Which would you rather have in your backyard, a wind or solar farm or nuclear?
